Things To Do
In Townsend, your entire family can enjoy a nice, warm day floating down the calm and beautiful Little River. The Little River, which runs through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for 59-miles before joining the Tennessee River, is perfect for tubing and offers different sections you can select based on what experience you’re looking for.
The lower section is known for its relaxing, scenic views. Your entire family, especially the younger ones, will enjoy themselves. The upper section holds more lively rapids and refreshing swimming holes. No matter which you choose, which can be both, you are promised a great time.
Enjoy a dip in the “Townsend Y” swimming hole, where the middle and west prongs of the Little River join. The large parking lot is located just beyond the Townsend entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The swimming area is wide and offers both shallow and deep areas. Pack a cooler with food, plenty of water, a towel, a blanket to lay out and a tube for a relaxing float on the water.
